It’s been a long time since my last Wellness Wednesday post. I think the last one was about a year ago, when I shared about adopting good posture.
Today, I’m sharing how I finally got treatment for TMJ jaw pain after years of thinking there might be no real solution. I don’t believe it!
The Story of My Jaw Pain
I have had jaw pain for I don’t even know how many years. It became one of those annoying things that I just accepted and thought, “Oh yeah, once you get older, there’s always pain to deal with.” I thought this was just my life now and silently thanked God that it wasn’t anything worse. Yes, I’d take jaw pain over anything else any day.
One day, I was talking to my beloved work friend, and somehow we got onto the topic of troublesome jaws. I showed him how bad I was. When I opened my mouth, it would zig-zag before closing again.
“Look,” I said. “Open, close, open, close. Click, click, click.”
My friend was a little horrified and politely asked me to stop before I damaged my jaw any further. He then told me about a physiotherapist he saw who specialized in TMJ.
TMJ is a jaw problem in which the joints and muscles do not work together properly, causing clicking sounds, pain and tightness. He says they not only treat the jaw itself but also look at things like muscle tension, posture, and the way you move your jaw on a day-to-day basis.
When I Finally Got Help
So I went home and didn’t do anything because of me and the medical issues… we weren’t really friends.
But then I thought I would stop being a baby and deal with this problem. The pain was getting worse, and popping Panadol and Nurofen wasn’t ideal. So, thanks to my friend’s recommendation, I booked TMJ jaw pain treatment at Sutherland Shire Physiotherapy and finally started my journey towards painlessness.
TMJ Jaw Pain Treatment
The physio assessed how my jaw moved. He checked how it opened and closed, the clicking sound, and the zig-zag movement I showed everyone.
He moved his magic hands through the tense muscles around my jaw, temples, and upper neck. I didn’t even realize how much tension I was under. This includes the masseter muscles along my cheeks and the temporalis at my temples. He also gently released the deeper muscles inside my mouth (which I later learned were part of the jaw stabilizing muscles).
He also applied gentle neck traction and guided my jaw through slow, controlled movements. This helps it start tracking even more smoothly.
Dry Needling, Exercise, and What I Do Now
In sessions since then, I’ve also had dry needling, which is similar to acupuncture. He used it in two places on my jaw to release the tension of very tight muscles. I was also given exercises to do at home, involving gentle jaw movements and relaxation, to help retrain how things work.
I’ve had four sessions so far, there’s still one more to go. After that, it was up to me to continue doing the exercises and retraining my jaw to keep everything moving as it should.
TMJ Jaw Pain Treatment Really Works!
And just like that, even after the first meeting, I already felt better. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the treatment did make me sore for a few days afterward, especially the neck pull—whew! But my jaw feels much better now, and the knot in my neck is completely gone.
I don’t know why I never fully believed a treatment like this would work. The same thing happened when I saw a podiatrist for my back pain, which had been bothering me for a long time. I only did it after my husband encouraged me, and didn’t expect it to make much of a difference. But the great podiatrist gave me custom made orthotics, and the pain just disappeared…poof!
Don’t Ignore Jaw Pain
If you experience jaw pain that has a domino effect on your entire body, don’t ignore it like I did all this time. Go and get it sorted because the TMJ physio is very helpful. In the future, you will be 100 percent grateful!
PakarPBN
A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
