Sunday Euphoria season 3 the premiere settled a long-standing question fans have been asking for nearly three years.
In 2023, actor Angus Cloudwho’s playing Fezco O’Neill in the HBO series, died. Since then, viewers have questioned the fate of his character, especially after the Fezco season 2 storyline ended on a cliffhanger.

Fezco O’Neill is a main character in the first two seasons Euphoria. He initially sells illegal substances to Rue Zendaya but develops a strong bond with her and her friend, Lexi (Maude Apatow).
In the season 2 finale, the police crack down on the illegal operations of Fez and his brother, Ashtray. During a standoff with the authorities, Fez is injured and ultimately captured, leaving his fate unresolved.
The season 3 premiere soared five years into the future, revealing Fez has been imprisoned. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for trafficking controlled substances, although details of his sentence remain unclear. Fez also loses contact with Lexi and most of his other friends.
Fans consider Fezco’s fate to be disrespectful after the death of Angus Cloud

After Fezco’s fate was revealed, several fans took to social media to pay tribute to Cloud. The actor struggled with drug-related problems and died of an accidental overdose in Oakland, California, on July 31, 2023.
Given the circumstances of Cloud’s death, several fans considered his character’s arrest and imprisonment in a drug trafficking case insensitive.
In X, viewers criticized the handling of the Fez storyline, calling it disrespectful to the late star. Others argued that the character should have been written with a happier ending.

“Am I the only one who thinks this is disrespectful to Angus?” said one fan.
A second wrote, “Completely lazy, unoriginal and disrespectful storyline ending for Fez.”
“30 years for Fezco has been brutal. The show has literally turned one of its most beloved characters into a permanent ghostly presence,” commented a third.
Sam Levinson explains the decision to keep Angus Cloud’s character alive

Ahead of the season 3 premiere, creator Sam Levinson discussed Cloud’s passing in a conversation with Hollywood Reporter. Levinson revealed that he “fought very hard to keep it clean,” adding that the decision to keep Fez alive stemmed from his love for Cloud.
“I can’t keep him alive in real life, but I can keep his character alive in the show,” he admits.
Despite the negative reaction, Levinson hinted that there would be more to Fez’s storyline revealed at the end of the season. He described Fez’s arc as something Cloud would be “very proud of”.
In a separate chat with New York TimesMaster of Ceremony said his initial plan was to return Fez after several years in prison. He wrote the storyline in part to help Cloud overcome his struggles.

“I want him to start exercising and taking care of himself,” she said.
Levinson added he originally intended for Fez to perish in season 1, but changed course to preserve Cloud’s motivation. The season 3 premiere was also dedicated to Cloud’s memory actors Eric Dane and executive producer Kevin Turen.
Dane, 53, died in February 2026 from complications related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Turen, 44, lost his life due to heart dysfunction in 2023.
