Achilles tendinopathy is an injury to the connective tissue band (tendon) that connects the muscles in the lower leg to your heel bone.
The Achilles tendon allows you to move your feet, including when you walk, run, jump, or climb, making it very vulnerable to wear. As a result, Achilles’ tendinopathy is a general injury, especially if you are very active.
There are two types of Achilles’ tendinopathy: insertion and non -senional tendinopathy.
- Insertion Achilles Tendinopathy – The fiber in the lower tendon becomes damaged, often as a result of intense physical activity for a long time, such as running distance.
- Tendinopathy of Noninsersional Achilles – The fiber in the middle tendon becomes damaged, usually in those who are new to increasing the intensity of their exercise, for example, by running. Age, diabetes, and high blood pressure are also risk factors.
Achilles tendinopathy is sometimes called Achilles tendonitis. However, most doctors do not use this term anymore. Tendonitis means your tendon is inflamed, but not all tendon injuries cause inflammation, so this term is not entirely accurate.
